Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee
The Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee is responsible for making formal recommendations to the court for refining and updating the rules of appellate procedure.
The Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee was created by order of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania on October 4, 1973. The committee’s name was changed by order of the Supreme Court on March 31, 1994.
Committee appointments are typically for six-year terms. In special circumstances the Supreme Court may extend or reduce the term of an appointment. This committee is appointed by the Supreme Court and its members are knowledgeable about the Rules of Appellate Procedure and experienced in state appellate practice in Pennsylvania. In addition, the chief clerk/prothonotary from each appellate court serves as an ex-officio member.
