March 11, 2025

Chief Justice of Pennsylvania Debra Todd, on behalf of the Court, today issued a citation officially recognizing the second week of March as Civic Learning Week in Pennsylvania, underscoring the importance of civics education in fostering an informed and engaged citizenry.

In the citation, the Court acknowledges the vital role of schools, educators and organizations in promoting civics education and commends the dedication of teachers across the Commonwealth who help equip students with the knowledge and skills to become active and responsible citizens.

Established in 1722, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania is the oldest appellate court in the country and has played an important role in the history of the Commonwealth. As the state’s highest court, the seven justices make the final decisions interpreting Pennsylvania’s laws and Constitution, have full administrative authority over Pennsylvania’s judicial system and hear cases involving issues of immediate public importance arising in any court in the Commonwealth.
