Description

The Interpreter Certification Coordinator provides administrative support to the Interpreter Program Administrator in managing the testing program for certifying interpreters across the state. Tasks include supervising the day-to-day activities involved in administering the tests, processing applications, organizing the test sessions, traveling to various locations in the state to proctor exams, and maintaining accurate records. Work is performed under limited supervision and requires initiative and independent thinking.

Primary Duties

  • Coordinates arrangements concerning the testing of candidates for statewide certification.
  • Receives and processes candidate applications, ensuring compliance with testing program requirements.
  • Schedules and organizes testing dates, venues, and personnel.
  • Secures and trains proctors, raters, and supervisors for testing sessions and cycles.
  • Supervises testing sessions and guarantees the security of testing instruments.
  • Maintains and updates information on a statewide roster of interpreters and distributes information to counties.
  • Implements testing policies following requirements and regulations.
  • Assists in the processing of certification renewals and issuing certification credentials.
  • Maintains records and keeps track of certified interpreters’ compliance with continuing education requirements.
  • Organizes and attends matters related to the virtual and in-person orientation and skill-building workshops, including participating as an instructor and preparing materials.
  • Assists judicial districts with interpreter-related matters.
  • Supports the program administrator in outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Judicial, Business, or Public Administration, or a closely related field; AND
  • Two years of experience in court interpreter management or three years of managerial work.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered.

Additional Requirements/Preferences

  • Satisfactory criminal background check required.
  • Strong oral and written communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Travel throughout Pennsylvania required.
  • Certified court interpreter preferred.
