Judge Steven D. Irwin
Steve Irwin is an equity partner at Leech Tishman Fuscaldo & Lampl, LLC, where he has served on the Management Committee, chaired the Employment & Labor Practice, Group and leads the Government Relations group. The firm has grown to more than 115 lawyers in seven states during his stewardship.
In February 2023, Mr. Irwin became Josh Shapiro's first appointment as Governor when he was named to fill the vacancy on the Pennsylvania Court of Judicial Discipline left by President Judge James Eisenhower.
Mr. Irwin currently chairs the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Pennsylvania Advisory Committee. He was recently elected to a three-year term as Chair of the Board of the Anti-Defamation League for the region encompassing Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Western Pennsylvania. In addition, Mr. Irwin is co-chair of the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative.
Mr. Irwin was unanimously confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate to serve as Banking and Securities Commissioner under two Governors. He rose to the post of PresidentElect of the North American Securities Administrators Association, which awarded him the Blue Sky Cube, the highest accolade bestowed upon a state or provincial securities regulator. Among other governmental appointments, Mr. Irwin represented the City of Pittsburgh on the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission. He commenced his governmental service as a policy analyst for the Attorney General of Florida, which was followed by six years as Legislative Assistant and Floor Monitor for Pennsylvania's longest-tenured U.S. Senator Arlen Specter.
Mr. Irwin's roots in his community are deep and include leadership of the Three Rivers Rowing Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Sustainable Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Ukrainian Relief Coalition. He previously served as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh, and currently serves on the advisory board of the law school's Center for International Legal Education. Mr. Irwin has completed the Commandant's National Security Program at the U.S. Army War College. He narrowly lost the Democratic Primary for election to Congress in PA-12.
A graduate of Harvard College, cum laude, Mr. Irwin wrote his thesis on the role of the judiciary in criminal sentencing reform. Upon graduation from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was an associate editor of the international law journal, he served as a law clerk for Judge Joseph F. Weis, Jr., of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Judge Irwin's wife Andi is an artist and BnB proprietor. They are parents to Jillian, a physician married to David Diederich; Jesse, a broadcaster and creative director; and Rose, who will study animal behavior at Eckerd College upon graduation from City of Bridges High School.
