Description

This position is responsible for providing professional and technical support for the program development, implementation and administration of the Unified Judicial System’s judicial district security function. The position reports to the AOPC’s Judicial District Security Administrator and works collaboratively with judges, judicial staff, consultants, government officials, and others in ensuring the security of court facilities and the safety of those who work in and visit those facilities.

Primary Duties

  • Assists with response to court security incidents that come to the attention of the Judicial District Security Office via the Pennsylvania Judicial Incident Reporting System (PAJIRS) including the review and evaluation of incidents; identification of appropriate security protocols and protective measures; and communication with law enforcement.
  • Assists with the development, implementations and delivery of comprehensive security programs to increase safety and security awareness across the judiciary.
  • Assists with the development and delivery of security presentations to the judiciary and other government/agency partners.
  • Participates in trainings and professional development to enhance knowledge of security, the judiciary, and other current trends in the security field.
  • Assists with court facility security assessments, meetings with judges, sheriffs and other local officials and court staff, and producing related reports on findings and recommendations.
  • Advises judges, court staff and other local court security members on the implementation of Rules of Judicial Administration 1950-1954 relating to emergency preparedness, continuity of operations, and judicial safety and security.
  • Demonstrates organizational agility and an ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively, particularly in urgent, emergent matters.
  • Readily capable of investigating confidential matters with unwavering professional resolve.
  • Thoroughly capable of functioning with a calm resolve in rapidly developing situations or crises; adept at communicating effectively with first responders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field; AND
  • Two years of probation and parole, security or related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and / or training may be considered.

Additional Requirements/Preferences

  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • 7-10 years of probation and parole, security or related experience preferred.
  • Highly competent aptitude with computer-based technology required.
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office products including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required.
  • Competence with WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Ring Central Meetings, and related virtual platforms required.
  • Valid driver’s license; periodic multi-day and overnight statewide travel required.
  • Valid or ability to attain ASIS Physical Security Professional, Professional Certified Investigator or Certified Protection Professional certification within 3 years required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Valid or ability to attain First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Act 235 certification preferred.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check required.
